Wir wären sehr an Ihrem Feedback zu dieser Resolution interessiert. Die Argumentation dahinter versucht, die Verbindung zwischen anderen Bereichen unserer Arbeit und der Klimapolitik zu verdeutlichen. Mehrere Mitgliedsorganisationen arbeiten bereits an diesem Thema, darunter auch die deutsche Mitgliedsorganisation, und wir halten es für angemessen, dass dieser Globale Aufruf zum Zusammenhang zwischen militärischen Emissionen und der Klimakatastrophe aus unserem allerersten Weltkongress in Afrika hervorgeht.

IPPNW Germany is planning on introducing a resolution on climate justice and disarmament at the International Council meeting in Mombasa. Please find the draft attached.
We would be very interested in your feedback on this resolution. The reasoning behind it tries to highlight the connection between other areas of our work and climate action. Several affiliates are already working on this topic, including the German affiliate, and we feel it would be appropriate for this Global Call on the connection between military emissions and the climate catastrophe to come out of our first ever World Congress in Africa.

Register today! IPPNW’s first African World Congress is open for registration!
The Congress will take place at the beautiful Travellers Beach Hotel & Club resort in Mombasa, Kenya, 27-29 April, 2023. Student and governance meetings (IC and BOD) will be on the 26th and governance meetings held again on the 30th. The Congress will be an in-person and hybrid event with access to many sessions virtually. Please go to www.ippnwafricaregion.org to register with IPPNW for the Congress and then reserve your room at the Travellers hotel at a discounted rate. You can also sign up for one of the post-congress beach or safari tours and/or for the Bike Tour.
Please join us for an exciting Congress program that will feature a range of African and international speakers. Sessions will highlight and link the health consequences of the climate crisis and nuclear weapons, especially as they relate to Africa, and within the context of other world events. Plenary and workshop topics will include the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons, nuclear famine, nuclear brinkmanship during war, climate and conflict, energy choices, and the Treaty to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons. Each session will be organized to provide engagement opportunities to participants. A Youth Panel will emphasize how young health professionals and others can become involved in advocating for climate justice, nuclear weapons abolition, and a more peaceful and sustainable world.

Zunächst wünschen wir uns allen ein glückliches und hoffentlich friedlicheres Jahr 2023. Wir hoffen, dass diese Nachricht Sie gesund und munter erreicht. Und bitte entschuldigen Sie die doppelte Post an einige.
Kurz vor dem Jahr 2023, in dem wir endlich einen persönlichen Weltkongress mit einer Sitzung des Internationalen Rates abhalten werden, haben einige Mitgliedsorganisationen den Wunsch geäußert, über die Regeln und Verfahren zur Durchführung der Nominierungen, der Wahlen und der IPPNW-Leitungssitzungen als solche informiert zu werden.
Der Weltkongress in Mombasa, Kenia, findet vom 26. bis zum 30. April statt, mit der Sitzung des scheidenden Vorstands und der ersten Sitzung des Internationalen Rates (IC) am 26. April und der zweiten IC-Sitzung und der Sitzung des neuen Vorstands am 30. April. Weitere Informationen finden Sie unter https://ippnwafricaregion.org/ippnw-world-congress-2/. Zum ersten Mal wird ein IPPNW-Weltkongress mit einer hybriden Lösung organisiert, d.h. wir möchten, dass so viele wie möglich vor Ort sind, aber auch die Möglichkeit haben, virtuell an den Vorstandssitzungen und Wahlen teilzunehmen.
Für diejenigen unter uns, die nicht mit der IPPNW-Satzung auf dem Nachttisch schlafen, ist die neueste Version mit den letzten Änderungen aus York 2017 beigefügt. Wir fügen auch ein älteres Dokument mit dem Titel “Rollen und Verantwortlichkeiten” bei, das ebenfalls einige der Führungsstrukturen und Verfahren der IPPNW erklärt. Hier werden wir versuchen, ein wenig über Ausschüsse, Nominierungen, Wahlen, Beschlüsse und andere Entscheidungen, die getroffen werden müssen, zu erklären.
Ausschüsse.
Es soll drei Ausschüsse geben, die der Durchführung der IC-Sitzungen dienen. i) ein Nominierungsausschuss (Const. 4.8., R&R XVIB), ii) ein Regel- und Mandatsprüfungsausschuss (Const. 4.4.) und iii) ein Beschlussfassungsausschuss (Const. 4.17., R&R XVIA).
Nominierungen.
Alle IPPNW-Mitglieder in good standing (nicht suspendiert) sind berechtigt, jede Person, die Mitglied einer IPPNW-Mitgliedsorganisation in good standing ist, für gewählte Vorstandspositionen des Internationalen Rates zu nominieren, d.h. Co-Präsidenten, Mitglieder des großen Vorstands sowie Sprecher und stellvertretender Sprecher des IC. Es ist nicht erforderlich, kann aber empfohlen werden, dass die Mitgliedsorganisationen die Unterstützung anderer Mitgliedsorganisationen für ihre Nominierungen suchen. Die Nominierungen müssen spätestens 60 Tage vor der ersten Sitzung des Internationalen Rates an den IPPNW-Exekutivdirektor (mchrist@ippnw.org) geschickt werden, d.h. im Jahr 2023 spätestens am 26. Februar. Sobald die Nominierungen vom Nominierungsausschuss angenommen worden sind, wird jeder Nominierte gebeten, eine persönliche Absichtserklärung abzugeben, die rechtzeitig vor der ersten Sitzung des Internationalen Rates an alle Mitgliedsorganisationen und Ratsmitglieder verteilt wird. Es ist von entscheidender Bedeutung, dass die IPPNW durch einen Vorstand vertreten wird, der eine große Vielfalt an Mitgliedern aufweist, insbesondere in Bezug auf Geschlecht, Geographie und Alter.
Die Kandidaten für die Positionen der regionalen Vizepräsidenten (RVP) werden von den Mitgliedsorganisationen jeder Region nominiert und gewählt. Dies sollte auf einer regionalen Versammlung geschehen, zu der alle Mitgliedsorganisationen eingeladen wurden und die Kandidaten vorher bekannt sind. Die Wahl der RVPs unterliegt der Genehmigung durch den IC auf seiner nächsten Sitzung.
Die Studenten nominieren und wählen ihre(n) internationale(n) Studentenvertreter, die einen Sitz im IPPNW-Vorstand haben und in der Regel auch im Exekutivausschuss vertreten sind (Satzung 6.1.a.2). Diese Wahl unterliegt ebenfalls der Genehmigung durch den IC bei seiner nächsten Sitzung.
Wahlen.
Alle Wahlen für Vorstandspositionen in der IPPNW werden in geheimer Abstimmung durchgeführt, entweder vor Ort, virtuell oder in einer Kombination aus beidem. In Mombasa wird es eine Kombination geben. Zusätzlich zu ihren schriftlichen Erklärungen sollen die Kandidaten die Möglichkeit erhalten, sich auf der ersten IC-Sitzung kurz vorzustellen, und dann werden wir die Abstimmung auf die gleiche Weise durchführen wie bei unserer ersten virtuellen IC-Sitzung im Jahr 2021. Das bedeutet, dass eine virtuelle Abstimmungsplattform für alle Ratsmitglieder geöffnet wird und die Abstimmungs-möglichkeit drei Tage lang, bis Samstag, den 29. April um 12 Uhr, besteht. Danach werden die Stimmen ausgezählt und die Ergebnisse auf der IC-Sitzung am Sonntag, den 30. April, vorgestellt.
Für Mombasa werden in den Wochen vor dem Kongress regionale Treffen virtuell abgehalten, um sicherzustellen, dass alle Mitgliedsorganisationen teilnehmen können. Die Mitarbeiter in Boston werden diese Vorbereitungen in Zusammenarbeit mit den derzeitigen RVPs unterstützen. Der IK wird die Ratifizierung der gewählten RVPs auf seiner ersten Sitzung am 26. April prüfen. Die Wahl der studentischen ISRs wird wahrscheinlich ebenfalls vorher auf der Studentenkonferenz stattfinden.
Geschäftsordnung für die IC-Sitzungen.
Der vom Vorstand eingesetzte Ausschuss für Geschäftsordnung und Mandate legt Kriterien für die Durchführung von IC-Sitzungen fest und klärt Streitigkeiten und Unklarheiten über die Qualifikation von Ratsmitgliedern, Nominierten und Vorschlägen (Konst. 4.4.), die dann dem IC zur Entscheidung vorgelegt werden.
Entschließungen
Das Präsidium, der Vorstand und alle IPPNW-Mitgliedsorganisationen sind berechtigt, Vorschläge und Resolutionen einzureichen, die vom IK behandelt werden. Die Vorschläge und Entschließungen müssen schriftlich eingereicht werden, über etwaige finanzielle Auswirkungen und/oder den Bedarf an Personalzeit informieren und dem Entschließungsausschuss rechtzeitig und spätestens 24 Stunden vor der ersten Sitzung des IK vorgelegt werden, d.h. am Dienstag, den 25. April um 12 Uhr.
Der Sprecher des IK und der IPPNW-Exekutivdirektor werden zusammen mit mindestens drei internationalen Ratsmitgliedern, die vom IPPNW-Vorstand ernannt werden, aber nicht dem Vorstand angehören, dem Entschließungsausschuss angehören. Der Entschließungsausschuss wird separat über das Verfahren informieren und das Standardformular für die Einreichung von Entschließungen zur Verfügung stellen.
Treuhänder sein
Die Wahl zum Kuratoriumsmitglied einer mit dem Friedensnobelpreis ausgezeichneten globalen Organisation wie der IPPNW ist sowohl eine Ehre als auch eine große Verantwortung. Sie helfen bei der Entwicklung und Umsetzung von IPPNW-Richtlinien und -Programmen und kümmern sich um die finanzielle Gesundheit der Organisation. Sie müssen sich unserer wichtigen Sache widmen, sich Zeit nehmen, Initiativen ergreifen, sich an Entscheidungen beteiligen und immer kurzfristig auf E-Mails antworten. Gleichzeitig ist man Teil von etwas, das größer ist als man selbst, man wird herausgefordert und inspiriert und erhält bei Bedarf Hilfe von erfahreneren Kollegen. Ein IPPNW-Treuhänder zu sein, in der Position, mit Kollegen und Freunden aus allen Ecken der Welt für eine so wichtige Sache wie Frieden und die Abschaffung der Atomkraft zusammenzuarbeiten, ist so bedeutungsvoll, wie es nur sein kann. Es wird dringend empfohlen, es zu versuchen.
Die Aufgaben, Pflichten und Verantwortlichkeiten der verschiedenen Arten von IPPNW-Treuhändern entnehmen Sie bitte der beigefügten Satzung und dem R&R-Dokument.
Liebe Freunde, bitte merken Sie sich die Tage des 23. IPPNW-Weltkongresses vor, entweder Sie planen, persönlich nach Mombasa zu kommen, oder Sie wollen virtuell am Kongress teilnehmen. Bitte überlegen Sie auch, wen Sie und Ihre Mitgliedsorganisation in den nächsten Jahren in den Führungspositionen der IPPNW sehen möchten und denken Sie daran, bis spätestens 26. Februar 2023 Kandidaten zu nominieren. Schicken Sie Ihre Nominierungen einfach an das IPPNW-Zentralbüro. Im Laufe des Monats März 2023 sollten alle Mitgliedsorganisationen dem Zentralbüro auch die Namen ihres internationalen Ratsmitglieds und seiner Stellvertreter und, wenn möglich, ihres/ihrer studentischen Ratsmitglieds/er mitteilen/bestätigen. Bitte achten Sie auch auf die Nachrichten, die Sie in den kommenden Monaten erreichen werden, und reagieren Sie darauf. Und zögern Sie bitte nicht, uns bei Fragen oder Anmerkungen zu kontaktieren.

RE: How we prepare for the 23rd IPPNW World Congress in Mombasa, Kenya
First of all, please let us wish us all a happy and hopefully more peaceful year 2023. We hope this message finds you safe and well. And, please excuse doble posting to some.
On the doorstep to the year 2023 when we shall, at last, have a face-to-face World Congress with an International Council meeting, some affiliates have expressed a wish to be updated on the rules and procedures of how to conduct the nominations, the elections, and the IPPNW governing meetings as such.
The World Congress in Mombasa, Kenya will be from April 26 to April 30 with the outgoing board meeting and the first International Council (IC) meeting on the 26th, and the second IC-meeting and the incoming board meeting on the 30th. For the first time an IPPNW World congress will be arranged with a hybrid solution, which means that we shall want to see as many as possible present at the site, but also with possibilities to participate at governing meetings and elections virtually.
For those of us who don’t sleep with the IPPNW-Constitution on the bedside table, the latest version thereof, with last amendments from York in 2017, is attached. We also attach an older document called “Roles and responsibilities” that also explains some of the governing structures and procedures of IPPNW. Here, we will try to explain a little about committees, nominations, elections, resolutions and other decisions that need to be made.
Committees.
There shall be three committees to serve the conduct of the IC-meetings. i) a nomination committee (Const. 4.8., R&R XVIB), ii) a rules- and credentials committee (Const. 4.4.), and iii) a resolution committee (Const. 4.17., R&R XVIA).
Nominations.
All IPPNW-affiliates in good standing (not suspended) are entitled to nominate anyone who is a member of an IPPNW affiliate in good standing for International Council elected board positions, i.e. co-presidents, at large board members, and speaker and deputy speaker of the IC. It is not needed but may be recommended for the affiliates to seek support from other affiliates for their nominations. The nominations must be sent to the IPPNW executive director (mchrist@ippnw.org) at the latest 60 days before the first International Council meeting which, in 2023, means no later than on February 26. Once the nominations have been accepted by the nomination committee, each nominee will be asked to submit a personal statement of intent to be distributed to all affiliates and councilors in due time before the first IC meeting. It is vitally important that IPPNW is represented by a highly inclusive board with diverse membership, particularly in terms of gender, geography, and age.
Candidates for the positions as regional vice presidents (RVP) are nominated and elected by the affiliates of each region. This should be done at a regional meeting where all affiliates have been invited and the candidates are known on beforehand. The election of RVPs is subject to approval by the IC at their next meeting.
Students nominate and elect their International Student Representative(s) who has one seat at the IPPNW board, and are also usually represented in the Executive committee (Const. 6.1.a.2). This election is also subject to approval by the IC at their next meeting.
Elections.
All elections for board positions in IPPNW shall be by secret ballot, either in place, virtually, or in combination of both. In Mombasa there will be a combination. In addition to their written statements, nominees shall be given the opportunity to present themselves briefly at the first IC-meeting, and then we will do the voting in the same way as we did at our first virtual IC-meeting in 2021. That means that a virtual voting platform will be opened for all councilors, and the voting opportunity will be open for three days, until Saturday April 29 at noon. Then, votes will be counted, and the results presented at the IC-meeting on Sunday April 30.
For Mombasa, regional meetings will be held virtually in the weeks leading up to the congress, thus ensuring that every affiliate can participate. The Boston staff will support these arrangements in collaboration with the current RVPs. The IC will consider ratification of the elected RVPs at its first meeting on April 26. Student ISRs will probably be elected on beforehand at the student conference as well.
Business rules at IC-meetings.
The rules and credentials committee appointed by the board shall establish criteria for conducting IC-meetings and resolve any disputes and uncertainties regarding the qualification of Councilors, nominees, and proposals (Const. 4.4.) which shall then be subject to decision by the IC.
Resolutions
The CO, the board, and all affiliates of IPPNW are entitled to submit proposals and resolutions to be handled by the IC. Proposals and resolutions must be in writing, must inform about any financial implications and/or need of staff time, and must be submitted to the resolution committee in good time and no later than 24 hours before the first IC meeting, which means Tuesday April 25 at noon.
The speaker of the IC and the IPPNW Executive director shall serve on the resolution committee together with at least three international councilors appointed by the IPPNW board, but who are not members of the board. The resolutions committee will communicate separately about the process, and will provide the standard form that should be used to submit resolutions.
To be a trustee
To be an elected trustee of a Nobel Peace Prize winning global organization like IPPNW is both an honor and a great responsibility. You will be helping to develop and implement IPPNW policies and programs and caring for the financial health of the organization. You have to be dedicated to our vital cause, set aside time, take initiatives, take part in decisions, and always answer to e-mails on short notice. At the same time, you are indeed part of something that is bigger than yourself, you get challenged and inspired and you get help from more experienced colleagues when needed. To be an IPPNW trustee, in the position to work together with colleagues and friends from every corner of the world for such a critical cause as peace and nuclear abolition is as meaningful as it can get. It is strongly recommended to try.

Dear friends, please note the days of the 23rd IPPNW World congress either you plan to come to Mombasa in person, or you plan to participate at the congress virtually. Please also consider who you and your affiliate would like to see in leading positions in IPPNW for the next years and remember to nominate candidates no later than on February 26, 2023. Just send your nominations to the IPPNW Central office. During the Month of March 2023 all affiliates should also communicate/confirm to the Central office the names of their International councilor and deputies and, if possible, student councilor(s). Please also be aware of and respond to messages that will reach you during the coming months. And, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or comments.
